Barrhead drug dealer caught in the act when cops spot plate of cocaine on living room chair

A drug dealer was caught red handed when cops turned up at his home in relation to another matter.

Police attended Gerrard McKee’s Fenwick Drive flat in Barrhead on December 17, 2021, and spotted a plate of cocaine sitting on the arm of a chair in the living room.

This rung alarm bells for officers and when CID attended at the property, it was “immediately apparent” there was drugs misuse within the 37-year-old’s flat.

Procurator fiscal depute Jason Stark told Paisley Sheriff Court: “In the early hours of Friday, December 17, 2021 three witnesses were within the accused’s home address in Barrhead.

“Through his own admissions, all were taking alcohol and cocaine. Police had cause to attend at the property where they were allowed entry by the accused.

“Within the living room, officers observed a plate sitting on the arm of a chair with white powder thereon.

“Later that morning, police officers from CID attended the property where it immediately became apparent there was evidence of drug misuse within the flat – namely the plate on the chair of the arm and in the kitchen a wall cupboard was open and within was a tupperware box containing white powder.

“On the worktop in the kitchen was a set of digital scales, a chopping board with white powder and a quantity of ‘bunchy bags’ – which are commonly used in packaging drugs.

“A search warrant was granted and police attended at the property to carry out a search.”

Court heard that during the search, cops found a plastic tub containing white powder which tested positive for cocaine weighing 59g, digital scales, a “quantity” of zip seal bags and a plastic tub containing trace amounts of white powder.

Mr Stark added: “Forensic analysis was carried out on the substances recovered. White powder found in a plastic tub weighed 0.5g and was found to contain cocaine and benzococaine.

“White powder found on a plate weighed 0.14g and also tested positive for cocaine. White powder found in a second plastic tub weighed 58.25g and was found to contain cocaine and benzococaine.

“Expert officers confirmed the 58.25g recovered is a two-ounce deal at £1,000 wholesale.”

McKee pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Defence agent Paul Coyle stated McKee’s record “reflects years of troubles in his younger years with alcohol and drugs”.

Sheriff Gillian Craig said: “I take a particularly dim view of those concerned in the supply of drugs.

“And the ills you say you have are as a result of your consumption of drugs. I will however defer for reports.”

Sentence was deferred until May 19, for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment. McKee’s bail was continued meantime.
