A "barren" west Edinburgh site that has become a target for fly tipping and reckless vandalism is to be reinvigorated with 142 new affordable homes after councillors gave plans the go ahead.
Part of Edinburgh City Council’s £1.3bn Granton Waterfront regeneration, a mix of social housing and mid-market rent properties will be built on Muirhouse Parkway, formerly the site of Silverlea care home which was closed and demolished in 2017.
Despite concerns around the impact on local wildlife and trees, provision of parking, potential strain on local services and part of the development sitting on protected green belt land, councillors welcomed the proposals at a meeting on Wednesday (August 10) and unanimously granted planning permission.
