Barnet: Arrest as man in 30s stabbed to death in Whetstone

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his early 30s was stabbed to death on Wednesday morning in north London.

Police were called by paramedics to a residential address off High Road, Whetstone at 2.45am.

Officers attended and found the victim with stab injuries.

Despite efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene less than 30 minutes later.

Scotland Yard said his next of kin are yet to be informed and formal identification hasn’t taken place.

A 35-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder remains at a north London hospital.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been informed.

Forensics experts were trawling for clues at a two storey home in a leafy north London suburb where a man was found dead.

Murder squad detectives are investigating after the incident at the house in Pangbourne Court off the High Road in Whetstone.

A neighbour said: "The first we knew of it dozens of police arrived. We heard shouting and ambulances then arrived. It’s sleepy here and a pretty well heeled neighbourhood it’s a total shock."

Another said: "This type of thing never happens around here. It’s so odd. I saw the police arrive I had no idea it was a murder."

The forensic teams were carrying out bags of evidence while detectives carried out door to door inquiries.

A black Mercedes and grey BMW parked outside the property where the man was killed were being examined by police and are thought to be forming part of the inquiry.

Meanwhile, officers were scouring the neighbourhood for CCTV and doorbell footage.

A woman who lives opposite the crime scene said: "I say hello to the people who live in the house. They seem nice and we have never had any problems with them."
