Bargain Hunt star set to hold free auction valuation event in Nottingham

A free auction valuation event is set to take place in Nottingham next month. Hansons Auctioneers will value antique treasures, collectables and jewellery for free on March 15.

The event will take place from 11am till 1pm at The Park Tennis Club, Tattershall Drive, The Park, with no appointment necessary. The venue is also set to host monthly events to enable people to find out if they own something of value.

Hansons Auctioneers' owner and Bargain Hunt star, Charles Hanson, is looking forward to making some fascinating discoveries. He said: “Nottingham and the county as a whole is a rich hunting ground for amazing finds. For example, a watch bought for £300 from Woodwards Jewellers on Derby Road, Nottingham, in the 1970s sold for £51,500 at Hansons.

“It turned out to be a rare 1960s Tudor Rolex steel Oysterdate wristwatch. Its owner used to wear it to work and in the garden. It went to auction with an estimate of £3,000 to £5,000 and sparked a major international bidding battle.

“Another Nottinghamshire find to make global waves was a quirky vampire slaying- kit. The Victorian-style kit was housed in a wooden box adorned with crosses and a crucifix. It included a dagger, pistol, stakes, a 19th century Book of Common Prayer, a bottle labelled ‘Holy Water’ and an axe. It sold for £800.

“Music memorabilia found in the city sparked huge worldwide media coverage too. We uncovered a Jimi Hendrix autographed note written to a Nottingham woman when she was a teenager in the 1960s. It soared to £5,700 from a £2,000-£3,000 estimate."

Mr Hanson added: “It never ceases to amaze me what people have tucked away in their homes, often for decades. And clients never cease to be amazed by the potential value of their items.

“Despite the cost-of-living crisis auction sales are booming and we’re seeing particularly strong demand for Asian works of art, Chinese ceramics, jewellery, silver and watches, vintage toys, coins, medals and militaria. Hansons’ first sale of 2023 saw a Chinese bronze figure sell for £68,000.

“Whatever you have at home, our experts will be pleased to assess it. Do drop by and pave the way to a potential auction windfall.” For further dates or to find out more, visit www.hansonsauctioneers.co.uk or email rmorley@hansonsauctioneers.co.uk.
