Barcelona Want to Replace Lewandowski With Premier League Ace

Robert Lewandowski has been in smashing form for Barcelona this season, scoring 22 goals in 20 games in all competitions. However, Father Time is not in the Polish striker’s corner, and the Blaugrana has already identified a suitable replacement for the 36-year-old. Newcastle United sharpshooter Alexander Isak is reportedly on Barca’s radar, with the club closely monitoring his situation ahead of a potential bid in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona Identifies Alexander Isak as Robert Lewandowski’s Replacement

Former Bayern Munich ace Lewandowski has seemingly turned back the years under Hansi Flick this season. He has looked a lot more deadly in the final third, putting pressure on defenders from start to finish and taking almost every chance that falls at his feet. Had it not been for his clinical finishing, Barca would not be sitting at the top of the La Liga standings and cruising in the UEFA Champions League.

While Barca acknowledge Lewandowski’s contributions, they know they must look to the future. While hunting for the Pole’s perfect successor, they have landed on Isak, who has been making headlines at Newcastle United with his performances. According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona could make a player plus cash offer for the 25-year-old center-forward. They are also prepared to meet his wage demands to lure him away from St. James’ Park.

As per TeamTalk, Newcastle United may not even entertain bids lower than £100 million ($126.9 million), making him a hard-to-attain target for cash-strapped Barcelona. To make matters more challenging, Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on the in-form center-forward.

Alexander Isak Has Been in Superb Form at Newcastle United

Premier League powerhouse Newcastle United paid €70 million ($73.7 million) to sign Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022. The Magpies paid well over Isak’s market value ($31.6 million) at the time, trusting he would come good.

Roughly two-and-a-half years in, Isak has become one of the best attackers in the Premier League, impressing onlookers not only with his finishing but also with his work rate and creativity. So far, Isak has played 80 games for Newcastle United in all competitions, scoring 40 goals and providing seven assists. He was at his imperious best in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, scoring 21 goals and providing two assists in 30 games.

Isak, who is improving with each passing day, is currently worth €75 million (as per Transfermarkt). His contract with the club expires on June 30, 2028.
