Barcelona climbed to the summit of the La Liga standings after securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Rayo Vallecano at home, with Robert Lewandowski converting a penalty kick.

Following recent setbacks by both Madrid clubs, who drew 1-1 whilst playing with reduced squads on Saturday, Barcelona capitalised on the opportunity. The Catalan side had previously trailed the league leaders by seven points just three weeks ago.
