Chelsea have a clear priority going into the summer transfer window and that's finding ways to help improve their issues in scoring goals. There are problems in both chance creation and finishing that will give the next head coach a huge problem to solve upon their appointment.
At this stage, the clear favourite is Mauricio Pochettino as football.london understands the former Tottenham manager is closing in on the role, but is yet to reach an agreement. The hierarchy have employed a thorough process to decide upon their next hire, leading to the long wait.
Interim manager Frank Lampard has taken charge of the squad until the end of the season, allowing for a clean slate for the manager-in-waiting. With just one win in his tenure so far, the former midfielder was quite frank in his assessment of the assessment, saying last month: "Is there an issue with the balance of the squad? Maybe, yeah."

It means there will have to be a clear out of some squad players that aren't likely to play a part in the next few seasons at the club as the building towards the future begins. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of those that is uncertain of his future at Stamford Bridge, with reports claiming that an exit is possible.
Chelsea would need a suitor to land the striker though, to ensure that they wouldn't miss out on the fee they paid for him just one year ago. Barcelona are reported to be keen on a return and if they were to make a move, could pave the way for the big turnover to begin.
That would allow the Blues to focus on the signing of their next striker, with plenty of options being touted, but Victor Osimhen standing out as an ideal option. The forward has announced himself on the world stage after guiding Napoli to the Serie A title and could help Pochettino solve Chelsea's big goal-scoring issue, though that could hinge on an exit for Aubameyang and an approach from Barcelona.
