Barcelona given green light to complete transfer that could have major impact on Arsenal

Arsenal supporters will be looking to go one better next season after an incredible Premier League campaign ended with them coming up just short of Manchester City in the title race.

After missing out on Champions League football last season, no one expected the Gunners to challenge for the title, but they were top of the table for much of the season, just running out of steam, finishing second behind Pep Guardiola's winning machine.

There is renewed hope and optimism around the Emirates Stadium following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. And, heading into the summer, all eyes will be on Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu to see what they do in the transfer market.

Eyes will also be on Stan and Josh Kroenke and how much money they give Arteta and Edu to spend, with the squad requiring strenghtening in order to challenge with Manchester City. That is particularly true given the Gunners will have Champions League football to think about next year.

Arteta has openly admitted he wants two quality players for every position - something City have already, but that could potentially change.

Looking accross to Spain, Sergio Busquets has left Barcelona after 18 years at the club, where he has been a mainstay and widely regarded as one of the best hlding midfielders in world football.

So how to Barca replace the 34-year-old? Busquets himself has had his say and a Manchester City star has been named as a potential, which could have a major impact on Arsenal and their Premier League title ambitions next year.

Busquets told Mundo Deportivo: "I know there's a lot of talk about players, about Rodri, about [Martin] Zubimendi. They are very good players and perhaps the ones that most match the DNA and the style that is wanted here but they are in another team, they belong to another club.

"We have Nico, who is on loan, and I think he is doing very well. I like all three of them a lot, and I've also met them in the national team. I think those three are the closest to Barça's DNA, the ones that could contribute the most."

Busquets has seemingly given Barcelona the green light to make a move for Rodri, and, given his season for City, that would hit Guardiola's team hard and potentially give everyone else in the Premier League shake-up a massive boost.
