Barcelona Decide to Sell Out-of-Favor Forward in January

La Liga leaders Barcelona have reportedly decided to sell Ansu Fati in the January transfer window.

Coach Hansi Flick does not have the Spaniard in his plans and the club do not have the luxury to keep an out-of-favor player on their payroll.

Ansu Fati Has Been Unlucky With Injuries

Fresh off La Masia, Fati burst onto the scene in the 2019-20 season. The jet-heeled left-winger caught everyone’s attention with his dribbling ability, creativity, and sharp finishing. The Blaugrana could not beat Real Madrid in the title race that season, but Fati emerged as the breakthrough player of the season, having scored seven goals in 24 La Liga matches.

He began the following season (2020-21) on a high, scoring three times in his first two outings. Unfortunately, he tore his meniscus on Matchday 9 and could not return to action until Matchday 7 of the 2021-22 season. A few matches later, he suffered a severe hamstring injury, which ruled him out until May 2022.

He was fit for the entirety of the 2022-23 season but his output was below par, with him managing just seven goals and four assists in 36 matches. In September 2023, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan. He struggled to stay fit and could not make the impact the Seagulls were expecting. He played 26 matches for Brighton across competitions in 2023-24, scoring four goals.

Barcelona Want to Sell Ansu Fati in January

Since Flick’s arrival at the start of the 2024-25 season, Fati has played seven games in all competitions, clocking just 158 minutes. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Flick prefers other forwards over Fati, which has prompted Barcelona to make a firm decision about the Spaniard’s future.

The Catalans have reportedly decided to sell Fati in the January transfer window, with several clubs showing interest in acquiring his services. A few non-Spanish clubs have already enquired about the 22-year-old, as they believe a change of scenery could reignite Fati’s career.

Fati’s entourage is also believed to be entertaining the idea of leaving Barcelona, as the player aims to recapture his best form and become an important part of a promising project.

Since becoming a member of the first team, Fati has played 119 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing nine assists. His contract with the Spanish side runs until June 30, 2027.
