Barcelona close to sealing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang loan transfer from Arsenal

Barcelona are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Arsenal to sign striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan.

The news comes amid plenty of uncertainty over the future of the centre forward position at Arsenal.

As things stand the Gunners' main two options are set to be Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, despite some late interest from Crystal Palace and Newcastle in the latter.

Aubameyang has been frozen out of the current squad under Mikel Arteta ever since a disciplinary breach in December, an incident that resulted in him being stripped of the Gunners' captaincy.

The 32-year-old has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs, with two clubs in Saudi Arabia willing to cover his salary until the end of the season.

However, football.london had reported that his preference is to stay in Europe, and it now seems as though a move to Barcelona is more likely.

As per the Athletic, the La Liga giants are close to reaching an agreement with the Gunners to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

The report states that Arsenal won't receive a loan fee but want Barcelona to cover as much of his £350,000-a-week wages as possible, which would be a huge saving but may be complicated by the Catalan club's financial state.

No option or obligation to buy is expected to be included in the proposed move, but if a consensus on his wage can be found, the move is expected to go through before Monday's deadline.

The Gabon international has found the net 92 times in an Arsenal shirt in just 163 appearances, but after being left out of the Gunners' warm weather camp in Dubai this week, his time at the club appears to be nearing its end.
