'Barbie' leaves 'Supergirl' with disfigured face - but still loses MMA fight

Muay Thai's 'Barbie' left her rival 'Supergirl' with a disfigured face after an onslaught of punches in their MMA fight - but she still lost the bout.

Belarusian kickboxer Ekaterina Vandarieva has earned her nickname due to her blonde features and model-like body and she was dominant during the bout in Singapore-based MMA promotion ONE Championship.

Her opponent was hospitalised after the fight due to the battering she received, suffering a serious haematoma on her forehead, reports The Daily Star.

But Thailand's 'Supergirl', real name Ann Jaroonsak, laid in her hospital bed as the winner after the fight had gone the distance and the judges ruled it in her favour.

When asked about the verdict, a fuming Vandarieva responded: "You shouldn't be asking me. You should be asking the judges.

"I did more hits, more kicks, and they were more accurate. I don't know what else I have to do to win here."

She was awarded a $50k performance bonus for her efforts by the promotion's boss Chatri Sityodtong, who was equally as puzzled by the judges.

He said: "I just don't know what the judges were seeing, what they were judging. She was one punch, one kick away from finishing Supergirl.

"Ekaterina easily won that fight - it was not even close. I was super impressed. I just don't see how she lost that fight, but I'm not a judge.

"We try to work with the best judges but I know Muay Thai, and Ekaterina won that fight."

An immediate rematch has since been ordered and both fighters have accepted.

Jaroonsak herself acknowledged that she was second best in the contest.

"When you're fighting, you have to get hurt," she said. "I got the W last night but the performance was so bad for me. Due to covid and school stuff, I hadn't fought for one year and four months.

"It wasn't my best performance but I did try my best at that time and keep forward for the whole fight.

"And I'm truly sorry that the results by the judges made you guys not happy with that. I fought and let the judges did their job.

"That's out of my control. Sorry about that again. And congratulations to my opponent who won the bonus last night. You're the best."
