A bar has issued an apology after praising an employee for working his shift after he was hit by a car.
Staff at Berry and Rye, based in the city centre, took to social media to praise their employee, Rylan, who had been involved in an accident on his way to work. Taking to Facebook, they heaped praise on the young worker as he "didn't think about calling in sick".
Writing their post, they added that Rylan was ok, describing him as a "legend". The post on Wednesday evening read: "This is Rylan. Rylan got knocked over by a car on his way into work today.

"He’s ok, barring a bruised bum and a new found dislike for BMWs. He didn’t think about calling in sick. Because Liverpool needs its cocktails. And because Rylan’s a legend. #belikerylan."
However, the post, which included a picture of the beaming employee, was met with much criticism online with hundreds of people quick to share their views. One person wrote: "Can we really not try and glorify and celebrate going into work after being run over like no, that’s not ok send him home. Did we not learn from Covid that celebrating people going into work when sick is a bad thing."
A second person wrote: "He should have been checked out by a hospital or GP. He is probably in shock and should have been sent home", as another commented: "Why are you trying to normalise going in to work after being hit by a car". A fourth wrote: "Well this post didn't really go to plan did it?"
However, a spokesperson for the bar confirmed to the ECHO it was a "minor accident" and Rylan didn't need medical treatment. They said: "We of course apologise to anyone offended or concerned on social media.
"It was very clear to all who saw Rylan when he arrived into work that this was a minor accident, which didn’t require a medical professional to confirm (or any first aid in this instance). The original post and accompanying hashtag was a light hearted gesture to give a long serving and highly regarded team member credit for coming in to do a shift.
"He was offered the chance to go home, but he was more than happy to do the shift. Incidentally he has also posted on his social media saying he is fine."
Rylan took to his own Instagram account thanking people for their concern, sharing the statement: "Appreciate the concern everyone I'm all good it was a tiny bump.
"Was offered the night off but wouldn't have worked if I didn't want to. Was deffo no need for me to waste time getting treatment. Could only have been me."
