Bank union strike today: Are banks open or closed today on September 11, 2026? Check details

If you have any bank-related work, you may need to wait for a few days to get it done if it needs a branch visit. It is because bank operations may be disrupted as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a nationwide strike today (Friday, September 11, 2026). It will be followed by bank holidays on Saturday (September 12) and Sunday (September 13).

In some states, people may need to wait for more days for their bank-related work as banks there are also closed on Monday and Tuesday for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Why have bank unions proposed a strike for September 11, 2026?

The UFBU has announced strikes as part of its demands concerning reforms in the banking sector. Among the key demands are the introduction of a five-day banking week and a review of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

The unions have also urged the government to fulfil its commitment to introduce a five-day banking week.
