As the end of the year approaches, it’s time to start looking ahead to 2023 and mark important dates on our calendars.
This includes the upcoming bank holidays, and next year will see the introduction of a new holiday as well as some changes to existing ones.
Starting with the remaining holidays for 2022, here are all of the bank holiday dates for the next year.
Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, which means that the actual bank holidays fall on December 26 and 27.
This means that New Year’s Day, which is a week after Christmas, also falls on a Sunday. As a result, the bank holiday is given on January 2, 2023.
After that, the next bank holiday is the first of it’s kind as we will get a holiday celebrating Ireland’s female patron saint, and the pagan goddess, St Brigid.
This public holiday will take place on the first Monday in February, except when February 1 falls on a Friday. In this case, the Friday will be the bank holiday.
This means that the second Bank Holiday of 2023 will fall on February 6.
The next Bank Holiday is St Patrick’s Day, on March 17. The extra day given this year was a once-off, and won’t be repeated in 2023. This day was a tribute to health workers and those who died from Covid-19.
Easter Monday is the next Bank Holiday and falls on April 10 in 2023. Good Friday is not a public holiday and, as a result, there is no automatic entitlement to time off work.
May Day is the next public holiday on Monday, May 1.
After this, the June Bank Holiday falls on June 5, 2023. It is followed by the August Bank Holiday on the 7th of the month.
The Halloween or October Bank Holiday takes place on Monday, the 30th.
Finally, the last bank holidays of 2023 will take place on December 25 and 26.
