With bank scams picking up in frequency and intensity, the banks themselves have been working on solutions. However, for one content creator, Deb Teach (debteach20), it collided with her life in a way that really upset her. She says a bank teller refused to let her withdraw her own cash until she answered one specific question: “what you’re going to be spending it on?” The interaction, which she detailed on Instagram, quickly went viral, racking up 1.6 million views.
“What the heck?? It’s none of your business!” Teach wrote in her post caption. In the video, she says the situation escalated when she refused to answer the teller’s question. “So she proceeds to tell me that a lot of people are getting scammed. And I said, ‘Don’t worry, this is not part of a scam, but I’m not telling you what I’m spending my money on.’” She says that after her response, the teller kept her waiting for 10 minutes.
