Bangladesh foreign minister elected president of UNGA session

DHAKA: Bangladesh foreign minister Khalilur Rahman has been elected president of United Nations General Assembly for the 81st session, defeating candidate of Cyprus Andreas Kakouris. Bangladesh last held the position in 1986-87. “This achievement reflects Bangladesh’s increasing contribution and credibility on the global stage. We believe he will proudly represent Bangladesh and forge connectivity, dialogue, and cooperation in addressing multilateral, shared challenges,” PM Tarique Rahman said.

Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar congratulated Khalilur and said he looks forward to working closely with him to advance their shared priorities and strengthen multilateral cooperation.
