A gang of young men have been "terrorising" a small group of residents by burning out stolen cars close to where they live.
The "horrific" events have been happening every night since Friday last week.
The gang of a "hundred" or so young men and teenagers steal cars and drive them recklessly up and down the Croftwood area of the city before crashing them into bollards at the end of the road.
Then, they set them alight.
Local Councillor Daithi Doolan was in touch with residents about the horrific incidents and went down to stand in support with a single mother that lives in the area last night.
The gang jeered at Daithi when they saw him and one member gave him an "almighty box" to the back of the head "that almost knocked him out".
He said: "I was assaulted by one of the people involved in the so-called 'joy riding'. This is unacceptable and only feeds into a sense of lawlessness and abandonment for those who had to witness the attack.
"I was up there supporting the residents. They have been tormented, tormented and tormented night, after night, after night. This is the fifth night in a row this has happened.
"They were grateful for my presence but to witness what is going on there was horrific, unacceptable and it shouldn't be tolerated.
"There is a gang there that rob cars and they tear up and down that passage of road with 10 or 15 houses and bollards at the end of it and crash into the bollards."
He added: "Then they set fire to the car close to the houses every single night. One resident is a single mother with kids and she is terrorised. Every night she is sitting in the house terrified about what is going to happen tonight.
"Every night I ring the Council, they clean it up and it happens again. It is insane. Nobody should have to live like that."
A major garda presence, which included a helicopter and at least eight cars and vans, showed up to the scene of the burning car and assisted the firefighter extinguishing the blaze.
There were no arrests made or injuries reported, a garda spokesperson told Dublin Live.
They said: "Gardai assisted DFB at Croftwood Road, Ballyfermot tonight at approximately 9.30pm following reports of a car on fire. The fire was extinguished and there was no reports of any injuries. No arrests were made."
Cllr Doolan lauded the garda response but added that they should respond like this every night it happens.
He said: "It wouldn't be tolerated in other parts of Dublin. The Garda response tonight was the response we needed earlier and that needs to be the response every night to this every night in Cherry Orchard. They [the gardai] came in, in cars and a helicopter and that is welcome.
"But if they had the resources tonight, where were the resources last night and the night before and the night before that?"
He added: "They need those resources deployed tomorrow night and whatever night those cars are terrorising and isolating those people. They need to let them know they are not on their own.
"The people I stood with tonight pay taxes like you, me and everybody else in Dublin."
