A party-loving centenarian celebrated a very special occasion in style this week.
Popular Balhousie Pitlochry resident Molly Cunningham was joined by devoted care home staff, numerous family friends and a son who flew in from Canada for her 100th birthday bash on Monday.
With COVID restrictions well and truly eased, Balhousie Pitlochry spoiled their second longest serving resident and her extensive list of guests.
Molly’s celebration included a custom cake baked in Pitlochry, balloons, bubbly, cupcakes and some of her favourite tunes.
“I had a thoroughly good time and can honestly say my 100th birthday party was one of my best yet,” Molly smiled.
“I want to thank all my wonderful friends who came along to make the day so special and to the Balhousie Pitlochry staff for making it happen.”
Molly moved to the Perthshire care home in 2017, where she enjoys the busy activities schedule and get-togethers and truly lives life to the full.
Balhousie Pitlochry home manager Claire Mackay said: “Molly is so popular with our staff that some of our nightshift carers came in on the day to join the party.
“She loves a get together and a blether, as is shown by the amount of friends who turned up to be with her. And having her son Andy here from Canada was just the icing on the cake – birthday cake, that is!”
The former resident of Rannoch, where she lived with her late husband Alex Cunningham, has lots of stories to tell.
Born in Edinburgh in 1922, she served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during World War II. She was stationed in both Edinburgh and Lincolnshire, which was known as ‘Bomber County’ because of the amount of airfields there.
Molly went on to have a son and a daughter, Andy and the late Alex, and worked for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Lasswade, Midlothian.
After moving to Perthshire, she and husband Alex built a house in Rannoch where Alex was Second Master at Rannoch School.
