The Cleveland Browns had their old buddy Baker Mayfield in check throughout most of Sunday’s matchup. But the Carolina Panthers quarterback broke free a bit in a potential comeback effort.
Down 20-7 a few minutes into the fourth quarter, Mayfield baked up some impromptu magic—scrambling for a clutch 7-yard touchdown to keep the Panthers alive. The run capped off an 11-play, 75-yard drive for the largely lethargic Carolina offense.

Mayfield didn’t get this “revenge game” off to much of a start—as the Browns defense had themselves a ball getting to their former teammate for four sacks and a handful of batted passes to that point. The score, however, gave the former No. 1 overall pick and his squad some renewed hope—facing just a six-point deficit with about an entire quarter of play left.
He has, thus far, completed 12 of his 23 attempts for 116 yards and an interception. The drive also woke up running back Christian McCaffrey, who ripped off a big 32-yard run to keep the touch moving.
