With its quirky colours and retro cool, the KitchenAid mixer has become a Great British Bake Off icon as famous as a Paul Hollywood put-down. And if the return of Celebrity Bake Off to our screens has got you tempted to whip up your own showstopper, the Aldi dupe version that's hundreds of pounds cheaper is finally back in stock after selling out.
Hundreds of shoppers have snapped up the latest Smartbuy since the dupe returned to Aldi's virtual shelves, with the firm opening it up for pre-orders finally last night. Previously Aldi has sold a pastel pink version of the £50 mixer, but this time round there is a pistachio colour to join more classic pearl and grey options.
Considering KitchenAid's smallest stand mixer option is currently £399, this £49.99 version is a perfect alternative for bakers on a budget. Just like its more expensive equivalent, Aldi's Ambiano can tackle heavy-duty baking tasks including whipping, whisking, kneading and mixing. Making it perfect for whipping up a star bake or five.
The Ambiano branded version has a 5L mixing bowl, giving it a 2.6L working capacity. The 800W mixer has eight speed levels and a pulse function. Bake Off aficionados know that different types of batter need different attachments at the stand mixer comes with three dishwasher safe pieces - a non-stick whisk, a flat beater with a silicone lip and the all-important dough hook. There's also a splash guard to minimise mess.
With a three-year warranty included it's proved popular with home bakers, getting hundreds of positive reviews. One baker from Cardiff said: "This is a brilliant stand mixer and does exactly what it’s supposed to at less than half the price of some of big brands. Nice big sized bowl and all the attachments you’ll ever need in a quality looking Aldi brand."
A Somerset baker commented: "I love it and so much more affordable than some of the well known makes of food mixers. Decent size for family baking but not so big that it takes up too much work top space."
A baker from Hertfordshire added: "I am so impressed with this mixer. We all know of the machines that cost hundreds that look similar which is why I like this. It looks great and is a solid build. I've used this to make cake batter and bread dough. It works really well and is super easy to clean too. Overall I am extremely happy."
The Ambiano stand mixer is available at Aldi now for a limited time for pre-orders. Customers who buy the gadget, which comes with free delivery, will have it despatched from April 7.
