New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe played a big part in Monday night’s contest against the Chicago Bears.
New England put Zappe under center on the fourth drive of the game after benching starting quarterback Mac Jones.
The Western Kentucky product went 14-of-22 on the evening, throwing for 185 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The New England offense struggled to get things going all evening and Zappe struggled to replicate the efficiency he had a week ago against the Cleveland Browns.
Zappe met with WEEI’s Merloni, Fauria, and Mego on Tuesday. It seems as though the early hook was a surprise to everybody, including the rookie himself.
“That’s kind of up to coach Belichick. That’s his decision,” said Zappe. “I kind of prepared the whole week like I have the last seven weeks to kind of have the mentality that I was one play away. Whenever that was, I was going to be ready.”
New England will look to bounce back against a surging New York Jets team next Sunday in an important game as they try to reclaim momentum. Maybe by then, they’ll have a more cohesive plan to stabilize the quarterback position.
