'Bah humbug to those who don't like it' Christmas mad couple put up tree in September

A Christmas-loving couple have put up their Christmas tree already, despite it being months away. Dermot and Gary Bradley Moore thoroughly enjoy transforming their home into a winder wonderland for the festive season, and this month they started unusually early.

The couple decided to get a head start this year because in 2021 they were one of the last on their street to get their decorations up.

Gary told MyDerry: "We simply put the tree up so early this year, why not. We are just back from Turkey and I said to Dermot right come on, we were last to do it last year as we were moving house, I want to be one of the first again.

"Basically, it just makes us and most people happy as you can see from our social media sites. Christmas is our favourite time of the year.

"If we could have our tree up all year round we would. We would go without essentials just to buy a new Santa, when the new Range [store] opened we ran straight through the doors and half the people knew us. We must of grabbed about ten Santas."

The couple featured on Belfast Live in 2020 when they produced a dazzling Christmas lights display on their waterside home, attracting people from all over the city, for charity.

Featuring snowmen, Santa's and reindeer, the Derry couple hope to light up their quiet residential street once again this year.

"That’s Gary’s part, he absolutely loves it, and I just let him be," Dermot added. "This year we out hoping to go bigger and better, we have a new snow machine ordered which we know will be a massive hit.

"We are hoping to have it all turned on the first week of October. We are also doing it for Foyle Search and Rescue. I'm all about the Christmas tree inside, no one is allowed to touch it."

And when asked what they thought of people who said that September was too early for Christmas decor, Dermot said: "Bah humbug."
