BAFTAs 2022: When is it on, how to watch, who is presenting and nominees

The British Academy Film Awards will soon be back on our screens bringing all the glitz and glamour.

The star studded event will see cinema's hottest stars come together for a nice of celebration and awards.

BAFTAs first formed in 1947 with the aim "to recognise those who had contributed outstanding creative work towards the advancement of British film".

For many years the ceremony was held in either April or May but it was all change in 2002 when the Bafta's were moved to February to precede the Oscars.

This year’s ceremony, sponsored by EE, will be the 75th BAFTA Film Awards since 1949 – with the BAFTAs first being broadcast on the BBC in 1956.

Here is everything you need to know about this year's BAFTAs.

When are the BAFTAs 2022?

The BAFTA film awards for 2022 will be held on Sunday March 13, with the ceremony kicking off at 7pm.

Where will the BAFTAs be held?

After the continuing impact of the coronavirus pandemic caused the Film Awards to be held virtually in 2021, the ceremony will return to the Royal Albert Hall in full glitz, glamour and glory on Sunday.

All of the awards have been presented here since 2017.

Who is the host of this year’s BAFTAs?

This year, Australian comedian and actress Rebel Wilson will be hosting the award ceremony.

She follows in the footsteps of Graham Norton, Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry at the helm.

Appearing on ITV's This Morning, speaking to Alison Hammond, she was asked why she thinks they chose her to present, as she replied: "I don't know."

Alison cackled before Rebel gave a proper answer, as she said: "Well I have presented awards before at the BAFTAs and it's gone pretty well."

The show cut to a clip of Rebel's previous appearance at the award ceremony where she had the crowd visibly crying with laughter.

She explained that being the host of the whole show would be completely different to just presenting an award though, as she said: "It's hard when you're the host because like you're in charge of the whole show and you have the whole responsibility. So I don't know whether they were wise asking me.

"I want to be a good host and I want everybody to have a good time because we've got massive stars coming like Lady Gaga, Benedict Cumberbatch..."

AJ Odudu and Tom Allen will be the co-hosts of Bafta’s red carpet show on the day, interviewing nominees and other special guests. The show will be streamed live across Bafta’s social channels.

Who are the BAFTA 2022 nominees?

A total of 48 feature films have received nominations for the Baftas 2022.

This year's awards sees a mixed bag of movies nominated across a wide range of genres, with Dune, The Power of the Dog and Belfast being among the top film nominations.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for best leading actor for his role in Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, facing off with Mahershala Ali, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Graham, Adeel Akhtar and Will Smith for the award.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga, Alana Haim, Emilia Jones, Renate Reinsve, Joanna Scanlan and Tessa Thompson are in the running for leading actress.

How to watch the BAFTAs 2022

The 2022 Baftas can be watched from the comfort of your own home by tuning into BBC One at 7pm UK time. If you don't have access to a television or want to catch up if you miss some of it, it can also be watched on BBC iPlayer.
