BAFTA viewers left confused as It's A Sin clips 'muted' while fans all say the same thing

The BAFTA TV awards are taking place tonight, but people are only talking about two things. The weird muting that's been spotted among viewers at home during a number of It's A Sin nomination clips, and the fact that Callum Scott Howells didn't take away the gong for Best Supporting Actor.

Russell T Davies's It's A Sin missed out on two awards at the ceremony on Sunday, May 8 - including Best Supporting Actor and Best Mini-Series. Cast members Omari Douglas and David Carlyle were also up for the award of Best Supporting Actor, alongside the Rhondda 's own Callum Scott Howells. It's been one of the most critically acclaimed dramas of the year, but viewers have been left outraged at the lack of awards handed out to It's A Sin.

Many people shared their views on Twitter, also appearing to be furious at the unexplained lack of audio of some of the clips of the show. Andrew Brown said: "Why do they keep muting the audio on It’s A Sin clips? #BAFTAS #Baftas2022", while another social media user, Jay Baker, said: "It's a sin not getting any awards so far is daylight robbery. Also the BBC muting it's a sin scenes ... I see you BBC ... #Baftas2022."

Meanwhile Lisa Dominic said: "Why are they muting #ItsASin at #Baftas2022 ??? Surely not because they are talking about aids!" But some people pointed out that the muting was down to the swear words featured in the clips, with Caz Young posting: "For everyone asking, the #BAFTAS keep muting It's A Sin because it's pre-watershed (9pm) and so they can't have swearing or content that may be unsuitable for young children. #La"

However, some fans said that it was due to a technical error as one viewer said: "I suspect it's more likely a technical fault. The production turn round for a programme like this is really complicated, a bit like trying to complete a jigsaw before all the parts have been printed or cut."

Describing the impact of the show Samantha Worrall said: "WTAF is going at the #BAFTAS. #ItsASin is and will remain the most incredible thing on TV and it’s been completely ignored." Another person added: "It's a sin was the most engaging, emotional enthralling TV I have ever seen #BAFTAS," while a third added: "Again, as much as I loved Time, It's A Sin, again, is getting robbed #Bafta."

Speaking about Callum Scott Howells nomination, one Twitter user added: "Think it's a testament to It's A Sin and Calum Scott Howells that even the clip of Colin's diagnosis was enough to set me off. 'Mammy, make them do something' tears my heart in two every time. Gutted they didn't win, it would've been well deserved #Baftas2022"
