It's A Sin failed to win a single TV BAFTA at tonight's 2022 ceremony - leaving viewers baffled and furious in equal measure.
The Channel 4 drama series, written and created by Russell T Davies, proved to be a huge hit last year when it aired and followed the lives of a group of gay men and their friends during the AIDs crisis from 1981 to 1991.
Its main cast features Olly Alexander as Ritchie Tozer, Omari Douglas as Roscoe Babatunde and Callum Scott Howells as Colin Morris-Jones as friends move to London.
Davies has spoken previously about how difficult it had been to sell the subject matter of AIDs and HIV to broadcasters, with both the BBC and ITV declining to develop it. Channel 4 initially also rejected the idea, but did a u-turn after their change of editor.
Despite reservations, the show received critical acclaim and became the most binge-watched show to stream on Channel 4's All 4.
Tonight, the show had been up for seven awards - best mini series, best actor (Olly Alexander), best supporting actor (Omari Douglas, David Carlyle and Callum Scott Howells, best actress (Lydia West) and must see moment.
However, the show came away empty handed this evening - leaving fans of the show incredibly confused.
One tweeted: "It’s A Sin was robbed. The cast and the writing were bloody brilliant. Proves that these “award shows” still have a long way to go. #Baftas2022."
While another commented: "I can't believe how grossly overlooked It's a Sin has been at the #Baftas2022 . It really is a sin."
A third wrote: "Not a single award for “It’s a Sin” at a very puzzling BAFTA TV Awards. #Baftas2022."
"I shall be very, VERY, V E R Y disappointed if It's A Sin doesn't win something tonight. Fuming #Baftas2022," another fumed.
Another raged: "#Baftas2022 So if ignoring it’s a sin isn’t bad enough, I haven’t heard of most of the shows nominated! Shocking results tonight."
