Spanish star Paula Badosa has been ruled out of the Australian Open with a thigh injury.
The Open's 11th seed, Badosa withdrew from Friday's Adelaide International 2 semi-final with the injury which she suffered in her previous match and has been unable to recover in time.
"Bad news," Badosa said in a statement on Twitter.
"During the quarterfinal match in Adelaide, I hurt myself and after receiving the results I will have to be out a few weeks.
"Sad to miss Australian Open this year, really going to miss it.
"I will do everything I can to return as soon as possible."
Badosa, who has reached as high as world No.2, was aiming to better her fourth-round appearance at the Open last year.
She joined Australian No.1 and world No.35 Ajla Tomljanovic (knee) in pulling out two days before the tournament starts.
Their exits allow lucky losers Leolia Jeanjean and Laura Pigossi - two players who lost in the final round of qualifying - to move into the main draw at Melbourne Park.
Badosa had been frustrated by her forced exit from Adelaide, believing she had been playing at a high level when injured in Thursday's win over Beatriz Haddad Maia.
World No.1 Iga Swiatek remains in the draw but will need to prove her fitness after she pulled out of the Adelaide International with a shoulder injury.
Organisers will hope she doesn't join the list of big-name absentees.
Last year's champion Ash Barty has retired along with seven-time champion Serena Williams, while Venus Williams withdrew from injury.
Naomi Osaka, the 2019 and 2021 champion, isn't returning this year as she is pregnant with her first child.
