After Zohran Mamdani’s historic win as New York City mayor Tuesday night, Indians took to social media to celebrate the mayor-elect.
Following an energetic victory rally, Mamdani addressed his supporters by quoting a historic speech from India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and thanked his Indian-born parents.
“We are proud of him. He has done a great job,” Mamdani’s maternal uncle Vikram Nair told The Associated Press. He said he was flooded with requests from friends and families to throw celebratory parties.
