Backpacker rapist to remain in jail indefinitely

A judge has ordered a man who raped a German backpacker to remain behind bars indefinitely. (Jono Searle/AAP PHOTOS)

A man who posed as a doctor looking for a nanny to work on his farm and wore a disguise to collect the backpacker before raping her will be detained in custody indefinitely.

Peter John Van de Wetering was due to be released next week, having served nine years behind bars after pleading guilty to nine charges relating to 19-year-old German woman.
