Like clockwork, Baby Reindeer’s real-life Martha Scott — AKA Fiona Harvey — has lashed out at creator Richard Gadd after he scooped three Emmys this week.
She’s a low-key comedian too, because she’s declared that Gadd “looked terrible in a kilt”. Tell us how you really feel, Fiona!
ICYMI, Baby Reindeer triumphed at the 2024 Emmy Awards, with Gadd taking home Outstanding Actor, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and co-star Jessica Gunning winning Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Harvey took aim at the Emmys voters who clearly loved Baby Reindeer, telling Daily Record “the level of intellect is clearly not high among the voters”.
“Gadd’s speech was a joke and he looked terrible in a kilt,” she added.
Harvey then referenced her $170 million lawsuit lodged against Netflix, saying she believes her lawyers will be successful.
“He may have won Emmys but he’ll lose the case. All of Gadd’s problems are of his own making. He’s a fantasist and a professional victim,” she said.
Harvey’s lawyer, Richard Roth, also released a statement about Baby Reindeer’s success.
“The Emmy wins confirm that Netflix’s strategy worked, going for the higher revenues and awards while leaving honesty and transparency behind,” he told Deadline.
Fiona Harvey hits out at Netflix over new Richard Gadd deal
Richard Gadd is currently hot property in Hollywood, and Netflix has secured a multi-year first-look agreement with the creator. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos made the announcement at the Royal Television Society London Conference, praising Gadd for Baby Reindeer.
“I think he’s a brilliant storyteller, he told an incredible story… I’m very proud of Richard and proud of the story he told,” he said.
Fiona Harvey hasn’t reacted well to the news, telling Daily Record: “How Netflix can do this in all conscience I do not know.”
“Baby Reindeer is not a true story. We are suing on that basis. It has caused total upheaval in my life and the lives of other people. My life has been put at risk with death threats,” she claimed.
“There is no veracity to the Netflix show with reference to me, Fiona Harvey. Mr Gadd is making money out of an untrue story and has sent the lives of others into abject misery.”
I guess we can expect that every time Gadd so much as ~breathes~ from now on, Harvey will be hot on his heels with a statement.
