Baby in critical condition in hospital after being found unresponsive

A baby is in a critical condition in hospital after being found unresponsive at an address in Newport.

The child was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on Sunday afternoon after police and ambulance attended a property at Broad Mead Park following a report of a "medical emergency". Get the latest Newport news sent to your inbox by signing up to our newsletter.

Gwent Police confirmed on Monday that the child remains in hospital in a "stable but critical condition". No further details about the child or the medical emergency have been disclosed.

A spokesperson for the force had previously told WalesOnline on Sunday: "We received a report of a medical emergency at an address in Broad Mead Park, Newport at around 3.25pm on Sunday, October 23, after a baby was found unresponsive. Officers attended, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, and the baby was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff for treatment."
