Baby dies from serious burns in south-west Sydney house fire

A six-week-old baby has died in hospital after suffering serious burns in Sydney's south-west this afternoon.

The baby was injured after a small fire broke out in the kitchen of the Campbelltown home, NSW Police said in a statement.

An investigation into the incident has found no suspicious circumstances.

The child was found by emergency services about 2:15pm and taken to Campbelltown Hospital but died a short time after arriving.

The incident involving a very young baby was "heartbreaking," NSW Ambulance Chief Superintendent Mark Gibbs said.

"The baby had sustained burns to between 80-90 per cent of its body and this was a very confronting scene for our paramedics," he said.

A second child was assessed for smoke inhalation but did not require further treatment.
