The recent hot weather had us digging out our shorts and flinging open our windows and back doors, as very few British homes have the benefit of air conditioning. But the price we paid for a bit of a breeze was an annoying invasion of flies, wasps and mosquitoes.
The Met Office has predicted a return of the high temperatures in July. But B&M is selling some products that could spare us the irritation of unwelcome insects – and they’re cheaper than you might expect.
There’s an easy-fit insect window screen which fits windows up to around 150 x 130cm. You cut it to size and don’t need any tools to install it. At just £3 each, you could get one for all your windows. And there’s also a magnetic insect door screen for just £4.

They’ve been described as “a must-have” if you’re trying to get air into your home while keeping insects out. People have been tagging their friends and family on social media to raise awareness of the screens. “This is what we need,” wrote @heathermuldoon on Instagram. “Might need one for every door and window at this rate!” wrote @ellaflintham_x.
“I’ll be getting them all,” commented @bethankate26, while @georgi86x wrote: “Horrible things… I can’t open my bathroom window, as soon as I do they come in.”
B&M also sells a mosquito and insect relief plug-in for £2.29, and insect repellent bands priced £1 for a pack of two. The Xpel mosquito repellent aerosol is £1.49 while the Jungle Formula extra strong insect repellent spray is £4.99. If you take your chances and get bitten or stung, After Bite Classic costs £2.99 and will provide you with relief.
