The Charleston Open experienced delays on Wednesday due to rain, causing matches to be pushed back several hours. Despite the weather challenges, both Victoria Azarenka and Anhelina Kalinina managed to secure victories and advance to the third round of the tournament.
Azarenka, the 12th seed in the competition, displayed a dominant performance as she defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto with a score of 6-1, 6-2. On the other hand, the 15th-seeded Kalinina emerged victorious against former champion Caroline Wozniacki, winning her match 6-2, 6-3.
The inclement weather caused significant delays, with the first matches of the day not commencing until 5:30 p.m. As a result, several matches that were originally scheduled for Wednesday evening had to be postponed. This included the anticipated clash between defending champion Ons Jabeur, the second seed, and Miami Open winner Danielle Collins. Additionally, the match between 2016 Charleston champion Sloane Stephens and Leylah Fernandez was also rescheduled.
