Ayr United unveil new backing as lifelong fans invest in club's future

A pair of Ayr United-daft businessmen are fulfilling a lifelong dream by plunging cash into the club they love.

David Lewis heads up a firm which helps others invest in their bright futures.

And he says that makes him and business partner son, Andrew, the perfect fit to get on board with the current revolution down Tryfield Place.

David's BSpoke Solutions firm will invest a five figure sum over two seasons at Somerset Park.

Money will be split equally between United's Football Academy and other interests around the club, including investment in the women's team.

And David, 54, says it's the realisation of five decades following the Honest Men to finally have his name up in lights.

He said: "I grew up in White City and have been coming here since I was four years old.

"My boy, Andrew, has been brought up the same with no option - we absolutely love it.

"One of the biggest things for me is the investment in the future. It's what we do as a business and the same applies in football.

"The biggest transfer fee this club received was 40 years ago for Steve Nicol at £300,000.

"For me, that's the biggest area a club like this can improve...by developing its own and generating substantial income."

David's BSpoke firm helps companies to apply for HMRC qualified relief of 20 per cent on any projects they develop.

He said: "The government actually wants to give out money and it's a win-win for all involved.

"A lot of money gets spent on research and development that is unseen. Not a lot of businesses know this kind of help is out there and that's where we come in.

"By being involved at Ayr United we're here as fans, but if we can help other businesses who are also involved at the club and network with them, then it's great for everyone."

United chairman, David Smith hailed the deal as another off the park milestone for the club.

He said: "We've got 11 Academy graduates in squad this year and our investment in the future is clear for all to see.

"A big part of getting Graeme Mathie here was that he was sporting director of Hibs selling players in multi-million pound deals. So we've got that clear direction of travel.

"Getting this two year sponsorship deal is outstanding. I used to play football with Davie and know how passionate he is about the club.

"I get a proper ear bashing from him about the club every time I bump into him.

"And it goes back to what we keep saying about the level of talented people on our own terraces...it's something we're harnessing and engaging with all the time."

United Football Academy volunteer, Colin Ross, said: "It's another fantastic boost for the Academy to be recognised as part of this deal and it will no doubt make a real difference moving forward."

United commercial boss, Martin Tocker, added: "The passion that David and his son, Andrew, have for Ayr United is evident from the moment you speak to them and we're delighted to welcome them on board.

"They represent everything about the community involvement that we're building at the club and their sponsorship is another valued addition to the team off the park."
