Ayr United have paid tribute to the legendary Alex Ingram following his death today at the age of 77.
Club chiefs said they were "deeply saddened" by the news of his passing, after he fought an heroic battle with dementia and Alzheimer's over the last 10 years.
Alex - nicknamed 'Dixie' - was the club's fourth all-time top-scorer, bagging 117 goals in all competitions for the Honest Men.
He was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame and 2008 and went on to become vice-chairman and one of only four honorary presidents, alongside Donald Cameron, Bill Barr and Andrew Charters.
Marking the sad passing, current director Alan Murray, said: "Alex joined the Board of Ayr United in 2008 bringing with him a vast amount of both football and business knowledge having successfully led Ingram Motoring Group for a number of years.
"There was always a presence when he walked into a room where everyone in football knew of him and for this he will forever be remembered."
Fellow director, Willie Houston, added: "I was very lucky to have known Alex and he encouraged me to join the Board at Ayr United.
"He was an immense figure as a player at Ayr and in the local business world.
"I will personally always be grateful to him for his support and his unwavering loyalty to the Club.”
Alex is survived by wife Jean, son Malcolm and daughters Alison and Susan.
