Ayr’s largest secondary school looks set to welcome a new head teacher next week.
Kevin Boyd will take over the reins at Belmont Academy from previous boss Tracy Stewart.
Mr Boyd, who is currently head teacher at Strathaven Academy in South Lanarkshire, is returning to his roots in South Ayrshire having been a pupil at Ayr Academy and latterly worked in the area.
His vast experience includes working at Prestwick Academy for 15 years where he undertook a variety of roles from principal teacher of maths to acting head teacher.
Mr Boyd said he is looking forward to his new role and added: “I look forward to working with all members of the Belmont Academy community to deliver positive outcomes for all young people.
“Belmont Academy is a fantastic school with many strengths, and I relish the opportunity to lead the community on its journey to excellence.”
Councillor William Grant, children and young people portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “I am delighted to welcome Kevin back to South Ayrshire.
“It’s clear he has vast experience and will be a great asset to the school.
“Belmont’s last inspection report was particularly strong, and I am sure Kevin will continue this success.”
Mr Boyd will start his new role on Monday, February 21.
