A 28-year-old man has been placed on the sex offenders register after he was caught with child porn.
Cameron Dobson, from Ayr, had indecent images of children in his possession in December 2019, including a 15 minute long video showing an adult engaged in sexual activity with a child.
Dobson admitted the offences when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Officers recovered a silver iPhone and a MacBook belonging to Dobson, with an initial inspection flagging the devices contained category A — the most severe — still images of children.
Dobson admitted downloading a Mega application — a cloud storage service — but denied knowledge of indecent images.
Cyber crime analysed the Apple iPhone and found 75 still images, of which two were category A, eight were category B and 65 were coded as category C.
Alongside the indecent images of children, almost 400 cartoon or CGI images were found and were said to be grossly offensive.
A 15-minute long category A video was recovered along with a 33 second moving image to video.
The MacBook Air belonging to Dobson was found to have 971 still images of indecent photos of children on it and 495 cartoon images which were categorised as prohibited.
Defending Dobson, Solicitor Victoria Ulph asked Sheriff Forlan to call for social work reports.
Ms Ulph said: “He has certain medical difficulties which I have endeavoured to find out more about.
“He pled guilty at the earliest opportunity.
“748 images were entirely inaccessible and there wasn’t knowledge about.
“He has to accept that he downloaded the Mega application, but he was not actively searching for indecent images of children.
“He is very much aware of the serious matter of this incident.”
Sentencing for Dobson was deferred until a later date for the court to obtain social work reports.
Dobson was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
