An area of a cemetery where graves have been found to have 'water ingress' will reopen to mourners on Monday.
Council teams will pull down fences around the extension at Ayr Cemetery to allow mourners back in after a three week probe found that water was leaking into chambers.
Ayrshire Live understands that 30 graves in total were inspected, but council chiefs are keeping tight-lipped on the total number of graves that were looked at.
The area on the eastern side of the burial ground has been fenced off since January 10.
Bosses admitted this week that their worst fears were confirmed when chambers expected to be airtight and watertight were found to have water dripping into them.
Families who had their loved ones' grave inspected have been told the difficult news.
Specialist teams were sent in to pump out the water found within chambers, with the cause of the leakage still being probed.
Ayrshire Live understands that samples of construction materials and water are also being looked at.
A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council confirmed the extension will reopen to the public as they stated they will not be making any further comment until a probe has finished.
A spokesperson said: "Ayr Cemetery extension will reopen to the public on Monday, January 31.
"As previously stated, we will continue to liaise directly with families but we won’t be making any further comment until the investigation has concluded and we have had time to consider the findings."
