Aymeric Laporte sends message to Erling Haaland with Manchester City transfer confirmed

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has welcomed Erling Haaland to the club.

A deal to bring the Borussia Dortmund striker to the Etihad Stadium was announced on Tuesday, with a transfer agreed in principle.

Haaland, one of the most prolific forwards in Europe, is set to join Pep Guardiola’s side on July 1 2022 and will follow in the footsteps of his father Alf-Inge, who played for City between 2000 and 2003.

City tried and failed to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane last summer after already having bid farewell to record goalscorer Sergio Aguero.

Haaland has scored 61 goals in 66 Bundesliga games since moving to Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, as well as 23 times in 19 Champions League appearances.

Joining a team who have out-scored the rest of the Premier League this season as it is, Haaland’s arrival in the Premier League will do little to lighten the mood amongst those trying to break City’s domestic dominance.

Taking to Twitter, Laporte said: “Happy not to be running after this guy for the next couple of years.

“Welcome Erling.”
