A village pub, recently named the best for families in the prestigious Great British Pub Awards, is planning improvements to its garden stables. The outbuilding overlooking the beer garden at Ye Olde Bridge Inn in Oxton has an outdated bar but it has mostly been used for storage.
Plans have been put forward to modernise the stables with a new bar, function area and toilets with a new level entrance and bifold doors to replace the current double doors. Hannah Lloyd, who took over the pub four years ago, also wants to add baby changing and improve disability access.
The buildings were partially converted before Hannah bought the business but only a quarter of the space was revamped. "They had a more shabby chic rustic approach to their finish, so the planning is to really bring the best out of the building, bring in natural light, add heating as there isn’t any and proper facilities," said Hannah, who is seeking planning permission from Newark and Sherwood District Council.
