The first thing to ensure you don't have any problems with your washing machine is to remove things like kirby grips or hair slides. They're so easy to just shove into your pocket, but if you forget to take them out then it can cause issues.
Similarly, if you carry loose change, that can also become an issue. AO recommends turning out the pockets of trousers to check that no pound coins or pennies are left over. And, if you find something, it's a win-win!
Another thing which mustn't go into the washing machine is tissue paper - this is especially important if you're washing something before wearing it and it came with tissue paper wrapped in sneaky places.
Plastic bags shouldn't be put into washing machines too because they may damage things in the washer and disintegrate.
The final item which is often found in washing machines will shock you though - nails and screws.
It's understandable why these should never be in your washing machine because they can not only damage the appliance, but they can damage the other clothes you've put in to wash too.
