Aviva Stadium fans make huge beer snake out of cups after free pint pandemonium

While the action on the pitch has certainly delivered, it's fair to say that the 2022 Aer Lingus Football Classic will largely be remembered for what happened all around it.

Word quickly travelled around the Aviva Stadium that the internet had crashed which led to the cashless bar making the decision to give out free food and drink to all those who were willing to put up with the mammoth queues that naturally formed.

Countless pints of varying quality were happily consumed which also meant there was a ridiculous amount of plastic cups dotted around the ground afterwards.

And sure enough on such a happy occasion, fans of both American and Irish descent came together to form a monster of a beer snake for...the craic.

Mirror Sport's Darragh Culhane has been at the D4 ground for us all day and got a flavour of the joyous mood among the crowd.

One Nebraska fan said: "It's all free baby. This is the best trip abroad ever"

While a Northwestern fan said of the free alcohol: "Irish hospitality is awesome, we should do this more back home."

Lastly, one Irish attendee said: "I've made my money back coming to this with the free pints."

The dedication of the American fans to their respective college teams is something to behold as it's estimated 16,000 of them flew in for the season opener.
