After crossing the $500 million mark, just five days after its release at the global box office, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is heading for Rs 300-crore mark at the Indian box office.
The film collected Rs 12 crore nett on its second Friday, bringing the overall collection of the film to Rs 200 crore nett. It is quickly approaching the 300-crore nett mark. The major collections are coming from the South, which contributes about 50 percent of all Indian collections, according to a report in boxofficeIndia.com.
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ also faced competition from the Telugu film ‘Dhamaka’ which opened at the box office at around Rs 6 crore nett which is pretty good. However, James Cameron’s film kept up with it over the weekend in the circuit.
The report also added that the growth of the collections are expected to be huge over the weekend, given the fact that Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’, starring Ranveer Singh is not doing well at the box office. While the circuits of Nizam/Andhra are way ahead, Mumbai is likely to cut the lead fast and end up being the biggest circuit which is the case with most of the Hollywood films released in India.
