Autopsy results for Nolan Wells set to be released by family

  • Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is scheduled to release the results of an independent autopsy into the death of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells on Wednesday morning at the NAACP National Convention in Chicago.
  • Wells' body was discovered after he went on a July 4 boat trip with friends to an island off the coast of Mississippi , with his family's attorney vowing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
  • The independent autopsy, funded by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, aims to determine if Wells sustained any physical injuries beyond drowning, contrasting with the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, which has not yet released its findings.
  • The still-unexplained death of Wells, who was Black and whose friends on the trip were white, has sparked widespread online speculation and prompted Black leaders to demand transparency from local authorities.
  • A $125,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction, while Rev. Al Sharpton has publicly questioned inconsistencies in the case and local investigators' premature statements suggesting no foul play.
