A search off the coast of Townsville in North Queensland will continue on Sunday for a 41-year-old fisherman missing in Cleveland Bay
Colin Palmer and a 45-year-old friend were fishing the previous evening when it is presumed they were knocked off their boat by a wave.
Police said the 45-year-old man was spotted by a commercial fishing boat just south of Townsville after signalling for help on Saturday at around 6.30am.
However, Mr Palmer has not been seen.
Police say the pair tried to swim back to their boat after falling into the water, but lost contact with each other in the darkness.
A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched on Saturday morning by the Coast Guard and Water Police to locate the missing 41-year-old Townsville man.
Police said the search for Mr Palmer will continue on Sunday.
"Aircraft will continue searching overnight with water-based assets re-joining the search at first light tomorrow morning," police said.
Police are asking for anyone who may have seen the four-metre boat with the registration RD806Q to contact authorities.
