Australian woman charged with stealing delivery van carrying 10,000 Krispy Kreme doughnuts

A woman in Australia has been charged with stealing a delivery van containing 10,000 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Police said the vehicle went missing from a service station in Carlingford, Sydney on 29 November.

The 'unmarked' delivery van was found at a car park a week later, with thousands of spoiled doughnuts inside.

Police said the doughnuts were “destroyed” but did not say how.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday following a two-week long investigation. She refused bail and faces charges including vehicle theft and driving while disqualified. She is due to appear before local court on Thursday.

New South Wales Police said: “She was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket.”

It was not confirmed whether she knew the parked van contained the 10,000 doughnuts inside before she drove off.

Krispy Kreme reassured customers they were "working to replace the 10,000 stolen doughnuts" and have reported the incident to the police.

A spokesperson told the Times: “Police are currently searching for the van and the sweet-toothed thief."

They added: "We are happy to advise that customers who were intending to purchase or who had orders placed at Krispy Kreme Charlestown will be able to get their doughnuts, as stock has already been replaced.

A similar incident occurred last month when a Dunkin’ Doughnuts truck making deliveries was stolen in Connecticut. Local news reported that the truck, filled with thousands of doughnuts, crashed leading to a delayed shipment and a shortage in Dunkin’s in the area.
