Australian Curtis Mead continues to shine at his new home, producing a standout Major League Baseball performance for the Washington Nationals.
The infielder has become a regular in the Nationals' lineup since he was traded from the Chicago White Sox last month and on Wednesday (AEST) Mead had his best major league performance.
Mead hit three for five with a solo home run, two runs batted in and a stolen base as the Nationals lost 7-6 to the St Louis Cardinals.
His fifth-inning homer broke a two-all tie and in the sixth, his two-out single scored another run and extended Washington's advantage to 5-3.
While Mead had produced three-hit games before at the top level, this was the first time he also homered and drove in multiple runs.
Scores were tied at five-all at Washington after nine innings and St Louis scored two to one in the extra 10th.
Mead, 25, is in his fourth MLB season after debuting at Tampa Bay. This is Adelaide native's third team and he is the only Australian currently playing in the major leagues.
He also impressed for Australia last month at the World Baseball Classic.
