Australian filmmaker Kiah Roache-Turner's new creature feature, Sting, hits theaters April 12

Horror movie Sting directed by Kiah Roache-Turner with practical spider effects.

With 2024 shaping up to be a year filled with thrilling horror movies, one film that demands attention is the upcoming creature feature, Sting. Written and directed by talented Australian filmmaker Kiah Roache-Turner, known for his work on the underrated zombie flick Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, Sting promises to deliver a unique and hair-raising experience for horror enthusiasts.

Screen Rant is excited to exclusively present the first trailer for Sting, allowing viewers to catch a glimpse of its chilling story and its eight-legged arachnid antagonist. The film introduces us to Charlotte, a 12-year-old girl who raises a spider named Sting. However, what starts as an innocent connection soon turns into a nightmarish struggle for Charlotte and her family as Sting grows into a flesh-eating terror.

What sets Sting apart from other horror films of its genre is the inclusion of practical spider effects from Wetã, the renowned company responsible for the visual effects in popular productions like The Last of Us. This hints at immersive and spine-tingling close-quarters encounters with the hairy spider appendages, promising to keep audiences at the edge of their seats.

Sting boasts an impressive cast, with Alyla Browne taking on the role of Charlotte. Joining her are talented actors such as Ryan Corr (from House of the Dragon), Penelope Mitchell (known for her role in Hellboy), Robyn Nevin (who appeared in Wolf Like Me), and Noni Hazlehurst (featured in The End). Moreover, adding a touch of comedy to the creepy proceedings is Jermaine Fowler (of The Blackening fame).

Fans of horror movies featuring creepy crawlies will be eagerly awaiting Sting's arrival in North American theaters on April 12th. As the trailer teases, this film has all the makings of a bone-chilling ride, and Roache-Turner's vision is sure to captivate audiences. If you're brave enough to confront your fears of spiders and relish the adrenaline rush of a well-crafted horror film, make sure to mark your calendars and catch Sting on the big screen. But beware, those with arachnophobia may find themselves in for a particularly nerve-wracking experience.
