Australia Without Migrants? Viral AI Video Exposes Fears Over Immigration Cuts and Worker Shortages

Australia's net overseas migration is set to more than halve from about 547,000 people in 2023 to a Labor government target of 225,000 by 2027–28, as a viral AI-generated video imagines what the country would look like without migrant workers and asks whether businesses could cope with fewer overseas staff.

The satirical clip, created by the Australian Hotels Association (AHA), uses dark humour to show how immigration cuts could affect everyday services, from hospitality and supermarkets to aged care, at a time of intense political pressure to reduce migration.
