NEW DELHI: A dominant Indian team hammered Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test in Nagpur on Saturday. Wrapping up the opener inside three days, India took a 1-0 lead in the four-Test series.
After nosediving to 177 all out in their first innings, the visitors were once again beaten black and blue in their second essay as they were skittled out for a paltry 91 in the 33rd over on Day 3.
Australia's 91 all out is now their lowest total on Indian soil.
The previous lowest scores for the Australian team in India were 93 all out in Mumbai in 2004 and 105 all out in Kanpur in 1959.
R Ashwin starred for India with a second innings fifer as his figures of 5 for 37 ripped apart the Aussie batting order in second innings.
The Indian spinners combined took 16 wickets in the Test to hand Australia an embarrassing defeat.
